"to swallow, to renew"

I'm afraid my life is turning into nothing but fashion and food. Come on, Erin. Read a little. Write a little. Do something because it's difficult for a change. Time to get MOTIVATED.

Casual outfit:
Sweater- Urban Outfitters
Dress- thrifted

My dinner today: gluten free bread, Gardein chicken cooked in balsamic vinaigrette, kale, sliced garlic almonds, clementine, Pinot Noir

(I need to start lotioning my hands before taking photos of rings)

I've been abusing this headband. I just love it so much!

We wear your skin like kings

I've been really inspired lately by Indian/Southeast Asian fashion. Turbans, dangling gold jewelry, bunched fabric, busy patterns, colorful jewels, bindis, etc. I've also been finding similar themes on a lot of fashion blogs and specifically in Chanel's Métiers D'Art collection. I love it! Hence, the following outfit:

Turban headband- ASOS
Long navy blue cardigan- H&M
Maxi dress with DIY bunching- Target?
Brown flats- Target?
Rings- Meijer

Now I am off to run errands, come back, light some candles and read (because I've been slacking a lot with personal reading). I hope everyone is enjoying the nice weather!

Food entry

As usual, I have essays to grade. And as usual, I'm procrastinating by perusing fashion sites and updating my blog. Woo!

Dennis came out to Bowling Green for a few days on his spring break and we made super delicious mac and cheese (even though I kind of fucked up the recipe):

My lunch today (sliced red potatoes, yellow pepper, onion, italian herbs, salt, pepper):

As part of my springtime-get-in-shape-panic, I've been eating a lot of raw fruits and veggies. I'm addicted to clementines and salads right now (as someone who normally hates salad, this says a lot). This is my go-to combination (romaine mix, kale, Gardein chicken, kalamata olives, garlic croutons, pepper):

"Invisible connection is stronger than visible"

I've been reading a book called The Dream and the Underworld by James Hillman partly for interest and partly for a research essay I'll be writing about the folklore of dreams. It's fantastic so far. I highly recommend it to anyone who's interested in dreams. Also, I finally got around to reading a chapbook that's been sitting on my shelf forever, The List of Dangers by Maggie Smith, which I'm also seriously impressed with.

Aaaaand here's a hodgepodge of photos I've been meaning to post.

Dennis and I made rice balls back in January. They were really good! I got the recipe here: http://theveganstoner.blogspot.com/2012/01/rice-balls.html

Also, some photos from the AWP Conference in Chicago last week:

"If you cover your ears, the bones will sing inside you"

The rain is beautiful. I listened to it all night. It relaxes me in a way that nothing else does.

My break has been good so far. Grading papers, reading, talking with my sisters, spending time with Dennis in between his classes. This weekend I plan on trying out a couple of recipes and seeing some old friends.

(A couple of lines from a poem I recently wrote:

"Nothing here feels like it should.
Little shapes, you caress me in such strange ways.")
